Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Siksha Parishad (U.P Board) was set up at Allahabad in 1921. UP Board is the biggest examining body in the world. The board has its regional offices in Bareilly, Varanasi, Meerut and Allahabad. At present there are 9121 secondary schools recognized by the U.P. Board of High School and Intermediate Education.

The main functions of UP Board are to prescribe textbooks for intermediate and high school level, to grant recognition to aspiring schools and to conduct high school and intermediate examinations.

The Director of Education of the State is Ex-Officio Chairman of the Board. The Secretary of the Board is appointed by the State Government and there are eight other Ex-officio members.
