Miracles do happen, yes, this is the story of the 23-year-old Supratim Dutta, an executive with HCL. Supratim Dutta was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a five-feet-long and two-inch wide iron rod pierced through his body. Supratim Dutta has survived the accident and is stable after the oeration.
Doctors at the AIIMS were able to perform a successful surgery that took out the iron rod/angle without causing any damage to the vital organs of Supratim Dutta.
It was one of the “rarest of rare surgeries”, which the doctors atthe AIIMS Trauma Centre performed and finally managed to extricate the rod which fortunately for Dutta missed his vital body organs.”
The accident took place on July 12 when Dutta was on his way to his Gurgaon office. Thendriver of his car lost control and collided with the construction barricades on the Gurgaon-Mehrauli road. As a result of the collision, the iron rod pierced through the dashboard of the car and impaled Dutta.
The iron rod remained inside his body for 90 minutes before people took him to hospital. The most important part of the whole accident was that Dutta did not lose consciousness and called his relatives and friends on his phone. Local people cut the iron rod and rushed him to AIIMS.
