Hemant Karkare , the ATS Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief of Maharashtra, who was investigating the Malegaon blast case, and a senior IPS officer, Ashok Marutirao Kamte, were among three officials killed in Mumbai terror attacks on Wednesday night in separate encounters with terrorists who struck at various places across Mumbai, India's financial capital.
Hemant Karkare was killed while leading an operation at the Taj hotel against terrorists who had taken 15 people as hostages.
Ashok Marutirao Kamte, a 1989 batch IPS officer, was killed while taking on terrorists at Metro Cinema in Mumbai along with Mumbai encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar.
